SHORT STORIES

Read a Short Story today!

This is a collection of Short Stories  written by Lee Siemon over the past 20 years. Reading a good short story not only is entertaining, but it helps pass the time without the worry of starting a book you can't finish. This collection, although written as fiction, has a basis in real life experiences (with the exception of Holly and The Journey). They are first hand accounts of adventures of me and my family.

Holly

Inspired by my travels through the back roads of the wilds of West Virginia when I was in my teens, this short Story is for adults only. During that time I saw some of the poorest people I had ever met, and I also saw what inherited poverty and loss of hope can do to people. This is a fictional story of an ex-white color workworker bumming around the country on a motorcycle and the desperate girl he met. Living with an alcholic father with no job, living in a delapidated old cabin, and being abuse at her fathers whim, Holly sees no compfort in the visitor who has befriended her father. To her, it was just a door to more abuse, as it always has been.

The Journey

Written in 1981, I can't remember what the inspiration was. This is a Short Story about a settler in the early 1900's in Montana. It is the middle of winter, and the weather has been unusually harsh. During a break betwen storms and completely out of supplies, Matt makes the only decision he can if he is to survive another storm; go to town for supplies. It is a half a days ride to town, and by the time he reaches the general store, an unexpected blizzard decends on the territory. The trip home is going to be a test of will and stamina.

The Prisoner

There is a Sort Story in everone's life. Sometimes the story is of despiration and the need to escape the prisons we all find ourselves in at one time or another. This is a deep look into two brothers, one in prison and the other who visits him weekly. It is a story about Depression, despiration, and a need to change a persons self-inflicted environment.

The Kite

Do you remember OUR good old days? You know, back when we were kids, growing up with the restraints of having a stay-at-home mother who has rules and a watchful eye over us. Do you remember the freedoms we enjoyed as neighborhood kids that are no longer part of our children's life, like staying out after dark and playing around the neighborhood without fear? How about the mischief we got into and how we were able to cover up for it and stay out of trouble! Who would believe that trouble could knock with something as inocent as kite flying? How about making the evening news and wishing you hadn't?

The Party

Sometimes the rote can get us into trouble. Take hiking for instance. You hike the same woods, the same paths week after week, then one day you end up...well, someplace, but God knows where. We all trust our senses to tell us what we hear, see, smell, and take the results for granted. Well things aren't always what they appear to be!

Search for Pecos Bill

Tall tales! I love them. I don't discount my hero Spider Man, but I really enjoy the old-time heroes - Paul Bunyon, John Henry, Johnny Appleseed, Calamity Jane, Davy Crockett, and Mike Fink, only to name a few. My favorites are Paul Bunyon and Pecos Bill. There is one unknow hero who spent some time searching for Pecos Bill. Either out of couriosity or jealousy, this hero stopped performing super-human feats to find this character everyone was bragging about. When and if he finds him, he'll also be face-to-face with America's first superwoman - Slue Foot Sue!
